Success for Brad, our IT Assistant!
Brad joined Vickers Oils as an apprentice in April 2023 studying to be a level 3 IT Support Technician. Brad has since passed his apprenticeship with a merit and is now a qualified IT Support Technician. Brad says, ‘I am really enjoying my time here at Vickers Oils and I have particularly enjoyed learning more about security and networking.
Alex Atha wins UKLA Young Employee of the Year 2023
United Kingdom Lubricants Association (UKLA) Ltd Young Employee of the Year 2023 winner, Alex Atha, had the opportunity to collect his trophy from the UKLA president, Mike Bewsey! Congratulations again Alex, a fantastic achievement 🏆
Women in Manufacturing – Vickers Oils celebrates International Womens Day
To celebrate Women in Manufacturing and International Women’s Day 2024, Vickers Oils decided to create a piece highlighting the women in their team, the roles they play at Vickers Oils and what they enjoy doing outside of work.
Mary Randall Vickers was the first woman entrepreneur in the Vickers family, having been left a widow running a business whilst raising 8 children. In 1819, Mary Vickers & Son was established, one of the few businesses headed by a woman. This was hugely unheard of for a woman living in that era. Benjamin Randall Vickers was then inspired by his mother Mary to found Vickers Oils, the business we know and love today. Without Mary’s perseverance, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
We believe that as a business rooted in deep history and the inspiring story of Mary and her entrepreneurial spirit, women in our business should be celebrated.
We are proud that 50% of our R&D, QC and Technical teams consist of women with a woman being in every department making it an even split throughout the company, all of whom provide valuable contributions to our business.

Celebrating and honouring the milestone: Peter Vickers’ retirement
In March 2025, Peter Vickers – 6th generation of the family to run the business retired after 42 years service in the company. In May 2025, a family and friends event was held to celebrate his retirement and long tenure at Vickers Oils.
ASTM honours Stephen Sumner with Award of Excellence
In December 2024, Stephen Sumner, former Chief Chemist at Vickers Oils, was presented with the ASTM Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions to the ASTM D02.12 Subcommittee on Environmental Standards for Lubricants over the past decade. He also served as Secretary of the committee for six years.
